5 Days Kunming and Xishuangbanna

Today you will take the flight to Kunming. When arrival, we will pick you up from the airport and transfer to the hotel check in. The rest of the day you can have a rest at the hotel or enjoy your leisure time in Kunming on your own.

Buffet breakfast at hotel, then drive along the new express way to Stone Forest (Shilin). Stone Forest is 75 kilometers from Kunming and is accessible by a bus ride of 70 minutes. The Stone forest belongs to the typical Karst geomorphology, it consists of innumerable bizarre-shaped ancient limestone cliffs and peaks created by wind and water erosion some 200 million years ago, and this area is praised as the “First Wonder In the World”. 

After the sightseeing, transfer to the train station and take the high-speed train to Xishuangbanna. The driver will meet you then take you to the hotel. Have a good rest.

Today our first stop is the Dai Minority Garden, consisting of five Dai villages that are best preserved. Walk into the garden, the first is the welcome square, where you will accept the enthusiastic Dai people to do the welcome dancing, sing messages and sprinkle water blessings. Follow the step, there is a Manchunman Ancient Buddhist Temple, one of the most oldest Buddhist temples in Xishuangbanna with a history of more than 1,400 years, where chanting can be heard every day. In addition, for Dai people in Xishuangbanna, the most soleum festival is the Water-splashing Festival, in the garden you can experience the lively scene of the water-splashing every day. If you want to participate, remember to bring a change of clothes.

Afterwards, we will continue the journey to Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, the largest botanical garden in China with the richest collection of species and the largest number of specialized plant parks. Among the nearly 10,000 species, there are many exotic varieties that most people have never heard of. There is no better place to get close and personal with nature than here.

After breakfast, head to the Wild Elephant Valley. China’s wild elephants currently exist only in the rainforest of Xishuangbanna and wild elephant activities are the most concentrated and frequent in Wild Elephant Valley. It is densely forested, and a large number of amphibians such as bison, green peacocks, and black bears also inhabit here. Except the scenery of rainforest, you can also enjoy the elephant show, there are 16 elephants domesticated here and is the first elephant training school in China. These trained behemoths will bow to visitors, welcome, dance to the melody of the music, etc.

In the afternoon, we’ll move to the Jinuo Village, the place where the Jinuo Ethnic Group live, and is the only place in China to watch the most comprehensive and concentrated display of Jinuo culture. You can enjoy the local barbecue while appreciating the performance and experience the unique Jinuo ethnic customs.
