Ranked first of Top Eight Sights in Durhuang’s annals of local history, Sanwei Mountain stretches a dozen of kilometers from east to west, and its highest peak sits opposite Echoing Sand Mountain cut by the Daquan River.
Dunhuang has commonly esteemed as a holy place of Buddha, while Sanwei Mountain is the origin of Mogao Grottoes. In memory of the first Mogao Grotto excavated in 366 AC. The Buddha statue on Sanwei Mountain rises up 36.6m. The second-largest bronze Buddha statue in China, adding a new highlight in Sanwei Mountain as well as in Dunhuang.
