FAQs

1. What dose Fujian mean in Chinese?

Fujian is named after the two prefectures Fuzhou and Jianzhou, each of which takes its first character. And Fujian has been called “Min” since ancient times, the meaning of “Min” is that there is a snake inside the door.

For thousands of years, snakes have profoundly influenced the religious beliefs, folk customs and spiritual culture of the people of Fujian, forming a unique cultural practice of revering snakes.

The representative culture of Fujian is Minnan culture, the formation of which has gone through a long process of historical evolution.

Before the Qin and Han Dynasties, the indigenous people of Minzhong had little interaction with the Central Plains, and the indigenous folklore formed its own system. Later on, Han culture was introduced to Fujian and gradually dominated the area.

During the Song Dynasty, Fujian’s culture flourished, preserving the ancient culture of the Central Plains and gradually forming local characteristics. Afterwards, the traditional culture of Fujian has been inherited and developed with the changes of the times, forming the traditional culture of Fujian nowadays.
